History:The Peter Hale wikia page
Personality:Put some records on while I pour
Before the fire that changed his entire life and took away what mattered to him most, Peter was a man with a deep devotion and familial love for his pack and family. He would watch over the young ones during the full moon, assuring that they didn't hurt others, as well as seeing to the human children as likely outside of the full moon as during it.
Peter was a man that planned for the future as seen through him not only keeping a bestiary but hiding it away for safe keeping that was strong enough to endure both fire and natural destruction. Problem solving and planning were always part of his nature, even if the planning for protection of his family had allowed their safe haven to be turned into a tool for murder.
Even to the end he worked hard to try and save his family, determined to get them out until the last moments when smoke and burns overtook him. It was this devotion and loyalty that became twisted by pain and regret, turning into something so wrong by a need for revenge.Listen to the fireplace roar
Six years before he is brought to Teleios, a fire destroyed nearly all of Peter's family and nearly brought him down with it. It is that single event that has shaped all he is now, and is the driving force behind the madness that drives him.
Lying there in a hospital, Peter became lost in the memories of the fire, reliving his family's screams, the sound of their begging, and the scent of singed flesh that stay with him to this day. That combination worried at his heart and mind until the devotion and determination that had guided him with his family guided him towards revenge. Pain has a way of erasing both morals and ethics until a person feels they can justify nearly anything.
For years of inactivity, of lying there waiting, he heard the pleas of children as he lay there, healing himself one cell at a time. Somewhere between the fire that left him burned, charred, and just on the cusp of death and recovering to find those that caused the fire, Peter lost his grasp on sanity. All of that loyalty and love for those he'd lost became a determination to never let it happen again and to track down and destroy those responsible.
What it truly did was destroy any moral compass he possessed. Right and wrong are ideals that have little to no meaning to Peter. It is his sense of right and wrong that has guided him for the last few months, leading him to kill his own niece, to invade the mind of an immune girl, and to kill a murderer in front of her own niece.
For all that it took from him, it lent him patience as well though. The patience to take his time healing himself over in miniscule moments so that no one was the wiser to what he was becoming. A patience to persue and devour as needed. It is often a strangle hold on his patience though, finding that it lasts only so long before a snap as he gave into his own desires.
Desires spurred by his determination coupled with a newfound bloodlust as he experienced both the power and the control of being an alpha wolf. This power, and the control over others it gave him, left Peter caught up in a web of self delusion. He truly believes he is right. He believes that what he is doing is right. It is these beliefs that guide him most often. He is a man held by himself to his own standards and not those of the world around him. Peter sees things through his own filtered lenses, often believing that his actions are justified even when it comes to murdering his own niece and alpha. Whatever stands in his way should be removed, no matter the cost to himself or others.I wish I knew how to break the spell
All of this though, the pain and delusions and even the bloodlust are often contained within a nearly sugary coating of biting smiles and taunting words laced with petulance and sassiness. The madness that consumes him has done nothing to his intelligence, something that Peter often uses to deflect from the monster he can be. A monster he really has no desire to evolve from. It isn't that he clings to his pain and deadly ideas, it's that he accepts who he has become. This is the natural evolution from wolf and family man, to alpha.
Charming to a fault, witty and sarcastic in turn, he is well versed, and rather well skilled, in hiding his pain and anger behind a facade that includes a sharp tongue and dry humor. Eye rolling is a speciality that he uses to express so much from contempt to annoyance, making no pretense at times of hiding just what he thinks of others. Peter's world, in his mind, is most often his own and that often leads to looking down on those that don't live up to a standard he has never made clear. A standard that is fluid, even for himself and his motives. How can you do this to me?
The downside to being a charming psychopath with a quick smile and a skewed view of the world is that there are a lot of things you keep from others that have a way of coming through anyway. When hurting others is second nature and you don't even see it as something wrong, you don't see these things as a reason you can't have what you want.
Despite having finally accomplished his goal of killing the hunter responsible for his family's death, Peter still has not found peace from his actions. He has lost everyone he could care about, either by their tragic deaths, by murdering them himself, or truly alienating anyone that could have been there for him. Still though, through this pain, he does try and reach out to others, if only through cruel mind tricks during his death, or offering to turn another. If all he had sought was the power of making more wolves, he wouldn't have asked and respected these wishes of a young boy. Nor did he have reason to try and woo a young girl when he already had a rather strong hold on her mind, thereby controlling her actions. What's the sense of hurtin' my pride?
Within canon, two current relationships affect Peter more than any and shall continue to do so in Teleios with or without those people there.
Derek is the one person who Peter has betrayed the deepest and who, in his mind, has hurt Peter the most. Derek survived the fire as a joke, a way for the killer to get her last revenge by allowing the boy that gave her the information to live with what he had done. While Peter can see this as not being Derek's fault, he always knows the hand he had in it and what it means for loss and family and pain. Yet it is not that which leaves the bitterest taste in his mouth.
Out of control and killing as he wished, not to mention randomly turning teenage boys, Peter had to be stopped. Even he knew this and planned for the inevitable. Yet to find himself burned once more, torched so that his nephew could tear out his throat, has left a mark on Peter just as the original fire did. It is, in his mind, an unnecessary cruelty, despite all he had done. Yet when that killing blow came, he not only expected it but, in his own way, he wanted it. He had planned for that moment, once more his determination and patience showing through with knowing his death was coming and embracing it. So that he could return.
When he attacked Lydia, he hadn't counted on her immunity to the bite yet it didn't make her immune to his plans. Using her as a vessel to do what he needed, he invaded her mind, haunting her from beyond the grave to make his plans come true. It is with this plan that allowed him to remain buried for months on end, dead to the world, that shows just how determined and decisive Peter can be.
It was that same plan though, those times when he interacted with Lydia in her own mind, that show just how much he seeks time with others. All he had to do was steer her to doing what he needed. Instead he sought out more with her, even to the point of presenting himself as his teen self to try and win her over, acting not as a killer with a plan but a young boy seeking connection with another.Think of my life long sorrow!
Loneliness though, when tempered with insanity and intelligence, means a man who lives by his own code, seeks out what he wants and is not quick to take no for an answer. Peter has no trouble telling reality from fiction despite his madness. It has merely removed any filter he might have had to tell him what is right and what is wrong.
Powers/Abilties:
Peter is a born wolf, not one created by a bite. With that comes several advantages and abilities that are general to most that are born to being a werewolf. While all of his senses are heightened at a level beyond the average human, two of his senses are more advanced than the other. His hearing is detailed enough he can hear the change in heartbeat enough to know if a person is lying, or scent traces of deadly herbs on the air, or even infection/disease in a person.
The werewolf ability also allows for enhanced strength and speed, both of which are available to him without shifting. As a regular werewolf he has the ability to partially shift, which includes ears elongating, as well as canines. His nails becomes claws and there is a noticeable difference in facial structure and hair growth.
Wolves, at least of the Hale line, have the ability to take pain from others through touch transference and may well connect with their ability to make memory transference as well. The pain can be done through simple touch, and it is seen in the werewolf by the pain coming up into their skin through black lines and dispersing into the body. The memory transference is done through a claw to the back of the neck, pricking the skin and likely connecting into the cerebral cortex at that point.
Before his death, Peter had obtained the alpha abilities from his niece Laura. Those included a full body shift, both to full wolf form, as well as wolfman form. The alpha abilities also allow the werewolf to turn new werewolves through a bite. As alpha, the wolf can control others through a command voice that has the ability to make his betas obey with that voice.
